libro Women Without An Escape: Feminist Criticism In Two Novels By Carmen De Burgos, La Flor De La Playa Y El Perseguidor .

Two of Carmen de Burgoss short novels, La Flor de la Playa and El Perseguidor, denounce the different social sectors that govern and define the Spanish woman at the end of the nineteenth and the beginning of the twentieth century, which deny her the opportunity to define her own ideas, values, and customs, thus illustrating the feminist theories of Teresa De Lauretis. Accordingly, women are shown to be oppressed by the patriarchal order, in which they are not valued as they should be. Society limits women to the role of mother and wife and denies them a place in the public sphere. Burgoss goal is that Spanish women be valued within society and that they have legal and social equality. Therefore, Burgoss struggle to attain equality for Spanish women is spurred by the many social discourses that hinder their self-realization as individuals.
