libro Theoretical And Experimental Study On The Non Evaporating Diesel Free Spray And Its Interaction With The Air Movement

A conceptual model to describe the behaviour of a non-evaporating Diesel spray generated by typical DI Diesel engine nozzles has been elaborated. The model includes both the free spray phenomenon (injected in a quiescent environment) and the interaction between a spray and a cross-wind. In the last case, the cross-wind can be either uniform or a swirl movement, which is the air movement existing inside actual HSDI Diesel engines. The study is based on Diesel spray and gaseous jet similarity, which has been demonstrated by the analysis of experimental data (Diesel spray) and CFD modelling results (gaseous jet). The issues that have been studied are, chiefly, velocity and concentration fields, spray tip penetration, axis deflection, fuel mass distribution and mixing evolution. As a result, a normalisation for the different relevant parameters is established, and the value for the Schmidt number in a Diesel spray is deduced as well.
