The book represents 3 decades of erudite and persistent research by Gal in what represents an analysis of the historic-aesthetic and socio-cultural aspects of popular art and popular culture in Mexico. The book consists of two sections: the first is a never published essay commissioned for the exhibition Puros Cuentos and where the author explains the origins of the graphic arts and popular literature in México through the importance of the printed Popular Prints their use and function and the Mexican engravers that created them. A second section gathers short essays (some previously published) regarding the study of the religious popular prints in México as a source of the history of the Church, the mythical perception of genuine Mexican attributed to engraver José Guadalupe Posada and the contextualization of the wild animal reproduced in the 18th century prints of New Spain.
