Eminently user-friendly, this book is already in its fourth printing. Chapters include an average of 60 explanatory footnotes in modern Spanish, clarifying socio-historical, literary, mythological, and biblical allusions. Up to three synonyms are offered in modern Spanish for difficult vocabulary (e.g., pergenio: traza, disposicion, apariencia), on the premise that the student will recognize at least one of the equivalents while the other(s) serve to build vocabulary. Text, notes, and lexical glosses have been repeatedly field tested and honed in the classroom by Manuel Delgado (Bucknell University), Mirta Gonzalez (CSU-San Bernardino), Anita Stoll (Cleve-land State University), and others.
